S. Korea's imports of Japanese semiconductor equipment drops 32.6% since start of trade spat
  • 5 years ago
Japan is feeling the unintended blowback of its unprecedented trade curbs on South Korea as its own economy feels the heat of its government's actions.
According to data from Seoul's trade ministry, after Japan imposed its first round of trade controls against South Korea in early July, South Korea's imports of Japanese semiconductor equipment has plunged by more than 32-and-a-half percent.
Japan's overall exports to South Korea also dropped by six-point-nine percent in July... and more than eight percent in August.
The impact has also been evident in Japan's tourist industry.
Japan's National Tourism Organization says a mere 309-thousand South Koreans visited Japan in August,... a staggering 48 percent drop compared to the same month last year.
