Yesterday, South Korea announced plans to conduct tougher inspections of Japanese coal.
Today, Tokyo's Chief Cabinet Secretary said his country will, quote: "respond appropriately" to those measures.
However, Yoshihide Suga, declined to comment further due to lack of details on the stronger inspections.
Changes Seoul plans to implemnt include checking Japanese coal for radioactive materials and heavy metals.
South Korea gets 99 percent of its imported coal from that neighboring country.
