Seoul has urged Tokyo to not use its plan for tougher inspections of South Korean marine products as retaliation for the ban on certain Japanese seafood products.
The measures begin starting tomorrow, citing risks of food poisoning during the summer.
South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister requested that the move should not be used as what he called a disguised discriminatory measure against South Korean seafood.
Seoul had banned certain Japanese marine products following the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster.
