Safety precautions to take at home during Typhoon Bavi

Typhoon Bavi is packing strong winds that could damage outdoor structures.
So officials are warning the public to stay indoors if they can.
But even in the comfort of your own home, there are several precautions that should be taken until the storm blows over.
Kim Yeon-seung reports.
Typhoon Bavi struck South Korea's southern island of Jeju on Tuesday, lashing the island with winds of up to 45 meters a second.
The storm is rapidly sweeping its way toward the capital expected to bring gusty winds and heavy rainfall to Seoul by Thursday.
As a result, there are some extra precautions you can take to stay safe.
That means staying indoors, but even that isn't completely risk-free.
When the strong winds hit, windows can shatter as seen during last year's typhoon, Lingling.
"Even though I taped the window two or three times, when the fierce wind kicked in everything just smashed."
In order to prevent this happening, put empty milk cartons in the gap between the window and the frame instead of taping newspaper to your windows.
Experts say the newspaper route is relatively ineffective when it comes to powerful winds.
If there's a gap between the window and the frame, the wind will continue to shake the glass, and then eventually it'll shatter.
An empty milk carton will secure the window and cushion the intense energy of the wind.
Also, there are risks of gas leaks and electric shocks. So make sure to close your gas valves and refrain from touching electrical outlets until the storm has passed.
