Typhoon Mitag to reach Korean Peninsula by Wednesday

Typhoon Mitag is forecast to hit the country by Wednesday,... bringing heavy downpours to most of the nation.

The 18th typhoon of the season, Mitag, is expected to reach Korea's south coast around Wednesday.
If it stays on its projected path, it will bring heavy rainfall to most of the country.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, as of 9 a.m. today, the typhoon was 270 kilometers northeast of Taiwan and is moving north towards Shanghai, China.
By Wednesday morning, Mitag is forecast to be roughly 300 kilometers off Korea's southernmost island of Jeju.
It is then expected to pass through Mokpo in Jeollanam-do Province on Wednesday night,... before leaving the peninsula and heading toward South Korea's easternmost island of Dokdo.
By the time the typhoon reaches Korea, it is forecast to have a maximum wind speed of roughly 104 kilometers per hour.
Heavy downpours and strong gusts are likely to lash Jeju Island and southern parts of the country today as the typhoon approaches.
The national weather agency has issued heavy rain warnings as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday for Jeolla-do Province,... and parts of this region are currently receiving up to 30 millimeters of rain per hour accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Typhoon Mitag is expected to be as strong as the recent typhoon Tapha and as serious damage is expected, experts advise people to prepare for the typhoon to minimize any damage.
