Final 10 contenders named in race for next UK PM
  • 5 years ago
Ten final candidates who threw their hats into the ring to replace British Prime Minister Theresa May were confirmed on Monday.
Former London mayor Boris Johnson, current foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt, and Environment Secretary Michael Gove are among those on the final list.
Conservative MPs will now take part in a series of votes to whittle the candidates down to the final two by June 20th.
The two MPs will then face the wider Tory membership to decide on the next leader of their party.
The new leader of the center-right party will almost certainly become prime minister, and would lead the country to solve the turmoil of Brexit.
Theresa May stepped down as the leader of the ruling Conservative Party last Friday but will remain in her post until her successor gets elected.
