The defense chiefs of South Korea and the U.S. held talks on Monday on North Korea's denuclearization.
Before the meeting, held in Seoul, acting U.S. Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan said the iron-clad 70-year alliance between South Korea and the U.S. remains unchanged and serves as a "linchpin" for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia.
He said the two allies will continue to monitor challenges North Korea poses to mutual safety... and that the combined forces are ready to stand united in enforcing sanctions against Pyeongyang until the regime complies with international obligations.
Shanahan also said steps are being made for the envisioned transition of wartime operational control from Washington to Seoul.
