President Moon Jae-in and King Philippe of Belgium, in their summit today, discussed a range topics, one being North Korea.
The King says Belgium stands behind President Moon's efforts for peace.
Park Hee-jun has the latest.
Referring to Belgium's experience of playing a crucial role in integrating the European Union,... President Moon Jae-in says there's a lot to learn from the country,... especially in terms of his own efforts to establish peace on the Korean Peninsula.
"Belgium's national motto, "unity makes strength", is very relatable to our people who wish for peace and unification on the Korean Peninsula."
President Moon held a bilateral summit with King Philippe of Belgium on Tuesday.
The summit comes amid difficulties in North Korea diplomacy following the collapse of the Hanoi summit.
Belgium has been a strong advocate of the Moon administration's North Korea policies,... being a supporter of dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
During the bilateral talks, the South Korean president shared the ongoing peace efforts on the Korean Peninsula,... asking for Belgium to play a constructive role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
The two countries also discussed economic cooperation.
Acknowledging each other's potential, they agreed to strengthen cooperation in chemistry, medicine, and logistics,... but also expand to areas such as artificial intelligence, smart cities, and startups.
"Innovation is a very strong sector for you and also for us. And you are very, very good in innovation. We admire that. You have the example of 5G. And you're very strong in artificial intelligence and smart cities."
And with Belgium being home to many small-sized companies,... King Philippe said he hopes to exchange ideas on ways to strengthen support for such firms.
