1 Rishi Bhogar was a well-known enlightened sage in South India, who became a Siddha Purusha under the influence of Guru Kalanginaathar.

2 He was one of the eighteen great Siddhar (ascetics) and was often referred to as Siddhar Bhogarnathar.

3 In his early life, Rishi Bhogar belonged to the family of goldsmiths, who at a very young age had mastered in the fields of yoga, medical preparations and archery.

4 He had put together a guide with various medicinal preparations and other details from his life called Saptakanda for one of his disciples.

5 It is said that Rishi Bhogra had created a deity of Lord Murgan called Lord Dandayudhapani with nine ingredients.


6 This deity still exists and is worshiped at the shrine of Palani Andavar, which has a Samadhi dedicated to Rishi Bhogra.

7 He established another Lord Murugan’s temple at Kataragama (Kathirgramam) in Sri Lanka.

8 Rishi Bhogar is believed to have travelled to China as per his guru’s last wishes to spread the knowledge of Siddha or enlightenment.
