1 Mahendra mountains are beautiful range mountains that fall in the Eastern Ghats, Odisha.
2 The mountain peak called Mahendragiri is the place where Hanuman landed after taking a leap from Sri Lanka.
3 This sacred peak is famous for the Parshuram temple, which is believed to be a spot where Parashurama received his axe from Lord Shiva.
4 The name of this Puranic mount range is mentioned in the mythological scriptures, including Ramayana and described in the epic Mahabharata.
5 It is not just the abode of Lord Parashurama, there are few ancient Shiva temples found on the mountain range named after the Pandavas, like Yudhistir or Dharmaraj Temple, Bhima Temple and Kunti Temple.
6 The Kunti Temple that stands atop the hills is said to be constructed by the Pandavas and is surrounded by many caves and wells that never dries up.
7 Mahendragiri is said to be visited by Arjuna as part of his pilgrimage. Even today, devotees visit this sacred pilgrimage site of Mahendragiri.
8 The main festival celebrated at the Mahendra hills is Shivaratri, which is visited by about twenty-five thousand pilgrims.
