S. Korea human rights agency urges more sign language election coverage

The National Human Rights Commission of Korea strongly urged television networks to provide more sign language interpretation... when they cover the local elections in June.
In a meeting with the nation's top three broadcasters, KBS, MBC and SBS, the human rights watchdog emphasized the need to have at least two sign language interpreters on air... so that dialogue between multiple people can be better understood.
There was only one at a time, during last year's reporting on the presidential election.
This prompted an association for people with disabilities to petition for more such services.
While the broadcasters argued that would pose technical difficulties, the commission sided with the association.
