The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea has asked the U.S. Congress and the Trump administration not to apply new tariffs on Korean cars.
These are the tariffs proposed on national security grounds.
An AmCham delegation, back from a meeting in Washington with U.S. officials, spoke to reporters on Monday, saying that if the U.S. exempts Korea from the tariffs it won't regret it.
The chairman of the AmCham foundation, Jeffrey Jones, said the Commerce Department and the White House are looking into the matter, but the final decision is President Trump's.
Jones said he had explained how the Section 232 tariffs would undo the benefits of the Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.
