North Korea continues to criticize and threaten South Korea over anti-Pyeongyang leaflets sent by North Korean defectors...and this time by releasing a statement regarding denuclearization.
Our Choi Won-jong has the details.
North Korea is, once again, ramping up inter-Korean tensions with criticisms of the South Korean government.
Kwon Jong-gun, head of the North Korea foreign ministry's North America department, said on Saturday that the South needs to stop nonsensical talk about denuclearization on the Korean peninsula.
This came after Seoul released a statement regarding efforts to resume dialogue between the North and the United States in the future.
Kwon also said in the state-run Korean Central News Agency, (quote) we are not what we were two years ago. The change continues and will continue as ever in a tremendous way.
On top of this, North Korea's United Front Department added to the criticism of the South.
According to the North's Rodong Sinmun on Saturday, Pyeongyang has threatened Seoul over anti-Pyeongyang leaflets sent by North Korean defectors.
Pyeongyang said the act of sending leaflets is insulting to the North Korean leader, calling them more dangerous than South Korea-U.S. joint military training.
North Korea's Jang Kum-chol, head of the United Front Department, said that inter-Korean relations have already reached a point where they cannot be fixed.
Jang further added that Seoul will now face difficult times, adding that the trust between the two Koreas has been destroyed.
Earlier this week, North Korea cut all communication lines with South Korea. Meanwhile, in Seoul, the government has not yet made an official response to the North's latest statements.
