Jerry Quarry vs Earnie Shavers in a ten round non-title heavyweight bout

Jerry Quarry was a popular Irish-American heavyweight in the 1960s and 1970s. A boxer of his size today would almost certainly be in the cruiserweight division, or even light heavyweight, but Quarry mixed it with just about every leading heavyweight of that era except George Foreman. He faced Floyd Patterson twice, Muhammad Ali twice, Joe Frazier twice, Ron Lyle, Ken Norton, Buster Mathis and Jimmy Ellis.
Quarry turned pro in May 1965, and after losing to Muhammad Ali for a second time in June 1972, he went on one of his periodic winning streaks. First up was Randy Neumann who retired after seven rounds. Next, was Ron Lyle, who Quarry beat on points over 12 rounds. Two quick stoppage wins over James Woody and Tony Doyle (in their third meeting) set things up for his next bout at Madison Square Garden.
Earnie Shavers is widely considered one of the hardest punching boxers of all time. What made him truly exceptional was his range of devastating punches - his left hook, right cross and right uppercut could all knock out his opponents.
After Shavers lost his 14th bout to Ron Stander, he went on a 33-fight winning streak, that included wins over Jimmy Young inside three rounds in February 1973 and Jimmy Ellis in the very first round in June 1973. In fact, only one of his last 33 opponents had gone the distance.
