Pullover & Bent Row Pre-Exhaust

You'd think that with my first 20 years being strictly Bodybuilding training that it'd be a cinch jumping back in. NOPE! My reasons are different now. I'm adding Bodybuilding to: 1) improve my leverages 2) break up scar tissue by stretching the fascia via blood volume 3) add muscle that will raise my(51 year old) basal & resting metabolic rate 4) strengthen the middle ROM which is the belly of the muscle. This will emphasize making the muscles stronger rather than the Tendon & Ligaments. This Lat work felt great. I pre-exhausted the Lats with Pullovers, then jumped right in w/Trap Bar Rows. What a pump & burn! I let the Pullover weight increase, but kept the Bent Row weight the same. I already CAN use big weight on Rows. The goal is to go heavy on the Isolation lift, which SHOULD make me struggle on the Compound lift. This is EXACTLY what happened. I was able to use a Bent Row weight that l could lower slower than l raised it: negative emphasis. This can't happen on my big Bent Row weights. I don't want to Bodybuild like a Bodybuilder. I want to Bodybuild in a way that supplements my main focus: STRENGTH! It requires honesty about what helps and what gets in the way. After a couple of sets at 102lb, l went up to 135lb on the Pullovers and only 170lb on the Bent Rows. Why a Trap Bar? I love the Lat pump from Bent Rows with this bar. Notice l let the bar drift forward as far as possible at the bottom? It's right up against my Achilles Tendon at the start. I pull up AND back. The weight moves as much horizontally as it does vertically! On the Pullovers, the hands are just hooks. It's the elbows that drive the movement: the hands just follow along. Building this elbow drive is H-U-G-E for Pullups. Can't wait to see where this takes me! God Bless!
