And more than 70-percent of them came from Seoul and its surrounding areas.
Concerned about the current situation,... Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on Wednesday that the labor union, which is planning a nationwide walkout later in the day,... should immediately cancel its plan.
The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the largest trade union in the country... has said it will go on a national strike to protest the government's plan to revise the labor law.
Prime Minister Chung also asked for local communities and schools' cooperation to ensure students taking the upcoming college entrance exam avoid being exposed to COVID-19.
Also, to stop the further spread within the capital area, the government imposed Level Two social distancing measures Tuesday,... the third-highest level on the nation's five-tier scheme.
This means five-types of nightlife venues like bars and clubs have to shut.
Singing rooms, gyms, and other indoor sports facilities have to close at 9 PM, and cafes can only offer take-out and delivery services.
The heightened measures in the greater Seoul area are likely to remain in place for two weeks.
