South Korea's minister of education, Yoo Eun-hae, took part in an extraordinary meeting Saturday of her counterparts from the G-20 countries... on their experience mitigating the impact of the pandemic on education.
The meeting was held online, and Minister Yoo explained how South Korea has been able to avoid a total shutdown of its school system by moving classes online... and by holding classes in person on a rotating basis.
She noted, for example, that the government has subsidized data expenses so students can use smart devices for class... regardless of their household income.
The participants recognized that the pandemic has had an especially big impact on underprivileged groups, and pledged to work together to share best practices.
