폼페이오 "한국 등 동맹들과 서방주도 세기 만들 것... 홍콩, 중국과 다르게 대할 이유 없어"

Tensions continue to rise between the U.S. and China, especially after Beijing passed the new national security law that further brings Hong Kong under its control.
President Trump has said there'll be no more special treatment for Hong Kong, and now, Secretary of State Pompeo says... the U.S. will work with its allies to fight what he called the "threat" from China.

Tough rhetoric from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in an interview Sunday... in which he called Xi Jinping not the "President" of China but "General Secretary," and referred not to China itself but to "the Chinese Community Party," which he called "aggressive" and "authoritarian."
Pompeo said China's military advances are real, and that the U.S. will be "good partners" with its allies including South Korea... to ensure that the next century continues according to a Western model based on freedom.
Also, regarding Beijing's highly controversial new national security law for Hong Kong, Pompeo stressed... that if Beijing is to treat Hong Kong the same way it treats the mainland, then there's no reason for the U.S. to treat Hong Kong differently either.
This echoes President Trump's statement on Saturday.
"China's latest incursion, along with other recent developments that degraded the territory's freedoms, makes clear that Hong Kong is no longer sufficiently autonomous to warrant the special treatment that we have afforded the territory since the handover. / Therefore, I am directing my administration to begin the process of eliminating policy exemptions that give Hong Kong different and special treatment."
As tensions continue to escalate, the U.S. is urging its allies to stand by its side and form a coalition against China.
President Trump said Saturday... that he wants to invite Australia, Russia, South Korea and India to this year's G7 meeting, possibly as a means to pressure China.
