President Moon Jae-in is calling on the government to direct all its capacity toward overcoming the COVID-19-triggered economic crisis.
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting Tuesday,... the president likened the situation to an economic wartime situation,... noting that conditions could worsen in the second quarter.
The economic shock is becoming apparent across all industries. This is an economic wartime situation. The government needs to go on a national crisis footing by concentrating all its capacity to overcome the crisis.
President Moon stressed the importance of swiftly implementing the measures announced so far,... as well as the need for continued unprecedented and bold decision making saying the longer it takes the greater the damage to the people and companies.
He added the country must not lose the opportunity to approve a third extra budget.
The president also ordered officials to thoroughly prepare so households are able to swiftly apply for emergency relief payments,... as well as speeding up programs to spur consumption.
In addition, he emphasized the need for a South Korean version of the New Deal to stimulate job creation calling on officials to use South Korea's strengths to actively carry out large-scale IT projects.
