Two patients in South Korea have recovered from the coronavirus after receiving blood plasma treatment.
The Journal of Korean Medical Science revealed today that two elderly patients with preexisting illnesses were cured using the treatment at Yonsei Severance Hospital.
The plasma treatment involves taking blood plasma from recovered COVID-19 patients, and infusing it into current patients so that the antibodies in the plasma can fight the virus.
Kwon Joon-wook, deputy director of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said that plasma treatment guidelines will be announced within days.
With a vaccine for COVID-19 at least a year away, plasma treatment has been getting attention as an alternative cure.
