S. Korea reports 58 new cases of COVID-19, approves use of blood plasma therapy to treat COVID-19

On the coronavirus front here in South Korea,
the nation reported 58 new cases today keeping the daily number below one hundred for a fifth straight day.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has given special approval for an immunoglobulin drug based on plasma containing antibodies to be used for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

South Korea saw 58 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.
For five straight days, the count has stayed below 100.
Of those 58 cases, 41 were locally transmitted, while 17 were from overseas.
The capital area saw the most cases on Tuesday with 11 from Seoul and 22 from Gyeonggi-do Province.
There has not yet been a spike in numbers since social distancing measures were lowered to level 1 last week,... but cluster infections at rehabilitation hospitals and nursing homes still remain a concern.
"The Central Disease Control Headquarters asks for your strict adherence to prevention measures as we continue to see COVID-19 cases rising from high-risk facilities such as rehabilitation hospitals, nursing homes, and psychiatric hospitals."
In the search for treatments for COVID-19, plasma therapy has reached a major milestone.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has approved the use of GC pharma's blood plasma therapy for the treatment of COVID-19 patients at Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital.
The blood plasma therapy uses antibodies in the blood plasma of those who have fully recovered from COVID-19 to treat infected patients.
Chilgok Kyungpook National University Hospital is the first place in the world to get approval for the treatment.
Other hospitals are still running clinical trials.
