Cassava successfully cultivated in Chungcheongbuk-do Province

A root vegetable native to South America, Cassava, has been successfully cultivated in a field in South Korea for the first time.
Chungcheongbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services planted Cassava in mid-May and after nearly six months,... five kilograms of the vegetable can be harvested every week.
If scaled up, two tons of Cassava can be produced per square kilometer.
It is one of the world's major crops according to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization,... with 8-hundred million people in over 25 countries consuming it.
It can also be used as starch and bioethanol fuel.
