Cassava successfully cultivated in Chungcheongbuk-do Province

세계 8대 농작물 '카사바'…충북에서 노지 재배 성공

A woody shrub native to South America, Cassava was successfully cultivated on a field for the first time in South Korea.
Chungcheongbuk-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services planted Cassava in mid-May and after nearly 6 months, 5 kilograms of Cassava can be harvested every week.
If scaled up, 2 tons of Cassava can be produced per square kilometer.
Cassava is one of the world's 8 major crops according to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organization, and it is eaten by 800 million people in over 25 countries.
It can also be used as starch and bioethanol fuel.
