A fire has destroyed the main hall and other structures of Japan's Shuri Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the country's southern prefecture of Okinawa.
The fire broke out early Thursday... most likely starting from the castle's main structure and spreading to the north and south halls.
According to fire department officials,... over four-thousand square meters of the site have been damaged, but no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
The Japanese government said it would make every effort to rebuild the Shuri Castle.
