As pro-democracy protests continue in Hong Kong.... an audio recording of a private meeting was leaked.
In it, Hong Kong's chief executive Carrie Lam was heard saying that she wished to quit.
But on Tuesday, she disputed the tape,... saying she's not going to resign.
Our Choi Jeong-yoon has more.
"Another thing I want to assure you, that is my own feeling the pulse and through discussions, CPG has absolutely no plan to send in the PLA."
This is what Carrie Lam, the chief executive of Hong Kong told the business leaders at a private luncheon last week.
According to a leaked audio released through Reuters, Carrie Lam said that possibility of mainland China sending troops into Hong Kong is very low.
In the recording, she was heard saying that Beijing will choose to play the long game as they are well aware of the consequences of sending the People's Liberation Army into Hong Kong.
Lam also said she has caused "unforgivable havoc" and would like to resign if she had a choice,... contradicting her previous stance that she would never resign during the period of protests.
"If I have a choice, the first thing (I would do) is to quit, having made a deep apology is to step down."
However, her statements at a press conference were contrary to the remarks she made during that closed-door meeting, and Lam strongly denied all her comments regarding her resignation.
"I have never, I have never tendered a resignation to the Central People's Government. I have not even contemplated to discuss a resignation with the Central People's Government. The choice of not resigning is my own choice."
Regarding the military forces, she emphasized that it is possible to send in the troops, however, order has been restored among the public. She delivered the message that Beijing believes Hong Kong can solve the three-month long crisis without intervention from mainland China. Choi Jeong-yoon, Arirang News
