전두환 재판서 혐의 부인... 향후 재판은?

Former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan headed back home after attending a trial in libel case.
He has flatly denied the charges against him.
Choi Si-young has our top story.
On Monday, former president Chun Doo-hwan attended a libel hearing at the Gwangju District Court.
He is accused of writing false accounts about the May 18th Pro-Democracy Movement in Gwangju... in a memoir published in 2017.
In doing so, he called the late activist and priest Cho Bi-oh, who said he saw the chopper attacks, a "shameless liar."
Hence the charge of libeling the dead, which at the hearing, Chun is said to have denied.
Chun came to the court 2 hours early and made no official statements to a pool of reporters.
But, he DID spit out few words of anger when asked by a reporter about whether he ordered the chopper attacks during the crackdown.
"What is this?..."
A number of protesters were outside the court the whole time during the hearing.
Chun's supporters were there too but were greatly outnumbered.
"If he had taken full responsibility for what had happened in Gwangju in 1980 and said sorry at the time, we wouldn't be having this chaos today."
Chun is charged with defaming the dead, which is punishable by law under certain conditions here in South Korea.
Chun would be found guilty if two conditions are met,... first, Chun's claim of "no chopper attacks" is shown to be "false" and second, he "knowingly" made his claim even though he was aware that it was false.
"The main issue here is whether Chun "intentionally" made his claim even when he knew it's false.
If found guilty, Chun will serve up to 2 years in prison or pay a maximum of roughly 5-thousand US dollars in fines."
The first hearing took about 75 minutes, and the next one is scheduled for April 8th.
