At the South Korea-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting in Bangkok, Seoul's top diplomat addressed participating countries that she shares their concerns regarding trade tensions between major trade partners, and stressed that free flow of trade and commerce should take precedence.
"We should enlarge the piece of pie that we are sharing through free flow of trade and commerce, and not adopt the 'beggar-thy-neighbor' attitude and approach."
Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha also held talks with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.
The two discussed the trade spat between South Korea and Japan.
Wang, without singling out any country, said global free trade, supported by the World Trade Organization, should continue, and that countries should try to move their relations forward after learning lessons from the past.
