A five-point-eight magnitude earthquake has rocked the Japanese island of Hokkaido, but there were no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries.
Japan's Meteorological Agency said the tremor struck Thursday night, local time, in the town of Atsuma at a depth of 33 kilometers.
There was also no fear of a tsunami and no abnormalities were detected at nuclear plants in the region.
Atsuma was hit by deadly landslides triggered by a magnitude 6.7 quake last September, which claimed more than 40 lives.
