1 Named after Goddess Chamundi, the Chamundeshwari Temple sits atop the Chamundi Hills in Mysore district.

2 Chamundeshwari Temple is one amongst the eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas.

3 The temple has a quadrangular structure and the original shrine is said to be built in the 12th century by Hoysala rulers.

4 Within the temple's sanctum stands a sculpted figure of Chamundeshwari, which is seated in a cross-legged yogic posture.

5 This is an ancient Hindu shrine features about 1,008 stone steps leading up to the 3000-foot summit of the hill.

6 At the 800th step stands a huge statue of Nandi finely carved out of a single piece of granite. It is 4.9m tall and 7.6m long, with exquisite bells engraved around its neck.

7 A key highlight of this temple is displayed to the visitors as they reach the summit. It is the gigantic statue of Demon Mahishasura.

8 During the festival of Dusshera, the idol of Goddess Chamundi is carried on decorated elephants with ceremonial parades and processions.
