Sage Bhrigu’s Curse Had Hit A String Of Events | Artha | AMAZING FACTS

The rishis were once conducting Maha- Yagna at the bank of river Sarasvati which according to them was essential for the refinement of their Brahmin life and ultimately reach the divinity. Although while conducting this yagya, an obstructive question arose that who amongst the Trideva (Hindu Trinity) was superior to other two. To solve this query, Sage Bhrigu went ahead to cross-examine them. Get to know what exactly happened when Sage Bhrigu came over to visit the Trideva.

1 Once Sage Bhrigu with the consent of all the great saints had to the test and decide who was pre-eminent amongst the Trideva (Hindu Trinity)
2 Amongst all the three deities, Sage Bhrigu first went to Lord Brahma in Brahmaloka and intentionally dishonored him.
3 Lord Brahma got furious after listening to his harsh tone and as a response Sage Bhrigu cursed him.
4 At Lord Shiva’s abode, the sage was stopped on the entrance itself by Shiva’s gatekeeper called Nandi, stating that the Shiva-Paravati were in love.
5 Sage Bhrigu felt insulted and cursed the divine couple to be henceforth worshiped in their carnal form as linga-yoni. He also cursed Nandi to live distant from his master.
6 At last, the sage visited Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi at Kshirsagar and found him resting on Shesha-Naga. Already frustrated Bhrigu humiliated Lord Vishnu and kicking the god on his chest.
7 Awakened by the strike, Lord Vishnu calmly inquired whether the sage was hurt. Pleased by Lord Vishnu’s courtesy and humbleness Sage Bhrigu declared Vishnu to be the most superior in the Holy Trinity.
8 According to Hindu theology, although Lord Vishnu was courteous to Sage Bhrigu but his consort Lakshmi could not tolerate disrespect displayed. In return, she cursed him that she would never visit Brahmins.
9 It is believed that after this incident, Sage Bhrigu decided to write a book of astrology, the Bhrigu Samhita, to help Brahmins earn their living.
