S. Korea clinches LPGA International Crown for 1st time
  • 6 years ago
On the sporting front,… South Korea's female golfers delighted their home fans by clinching the LPGA International Crown title for the first time.

Won Jung-hwan reports.

South Korea captured its first LPGA International Crown in front of tens of thousands of fans in Incheon, 40 kilometers west of Seoul.
The heavily fancied Korean team, made up of world Number 1 Park Sung-hyun,... as well as Ryu So-yeon, Kim In-kyung and Chun In-gee,… came out on top in the eight-country tournament.

With Kim's title-clinching point in her singles match against England,… South Korea collected 15 points overall,… 4 points better than both England and the defending champion, the United States.
Each country was represented by four players, with the winning players each receiving 100-thousand U.S. dollars in prize money.

Despite having 4 players listed in the world's top 10 and collecting nearly half of the 33 LPGA titles last season,… South Korea's women's golf team had never lifted the International Crown trophy before, finishing in third place at the inaugural event in 2014 and in second place two years ago.
