Samsung Heavy Industries has clinched a deal to build 10 crude oil tankers fuelled by LNG.
The South Korean shipbuilder said Monday that the deal with an unspecified Oceania-based company was worth six-hundred-21 million U.S. dollars... for delivery by 2022.
The eco-friendly ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas using the company's own "S-Fugas" technology, which reduces emissions of toxic chemicals by up to 99 percent.
With the deal, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured contracts to build 29 vessels this year, worth a total of four-point-two billion dollars, making it the first company in the industry to reach over half of its annual goal.
