AMARILLO, TEXAS — Police officers shot and killed an armed man Tuesday during a hostage situation at a Amarillo, Texas Walmart store, Reuters reported. Authorities believe the incident was related to a workplace dispute.

The Amarillo Police Department says suspect Mohammad Moghaddam entered the store and fired at least one shot toward the ceiling. The 54-year-old then took two members of the store’s management staff to an office.

One hostage escaped the office while the SWAT team was getting into place, Lt. Eric Bohannon told the Amarillo Globe-News. At around 12:20 p.m., police say SWAT officers entered the office and saw the second hostage and Moghaddam with weapon in hand. The officers then shot and killed him. Both hostages were unharmed.

Moghaddam was an employee at the store and had gotten onto dispute with his managers over a promotion, police said.

Police are treating the incident as a case of workplace violence and not as act of terrorism, the Amarillo Globe-News reported. There appears to be no connection between the incident and the Orland club shooting on Sunday, police said.
