'3000만' 총선 열기에도 확진자 '0'... 연휴기간 동안 조심해야

Nine new cases of COVID-19 were reported in South Korea today,... but none have been related to the 2020 General Election. If no new cases come as a result of voting in the election by midnight tonight, South Korea will know that its preventive measures were not in vain. Meanwhile,... with a long weekend coming up, health authorities are asking citizens to be extra careful. Our Kim Bo-kyoung tells us more.
Nine new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Wednesday...bringing Korea's total to 10-thousand-761.
Five of which were imported cases... two from Europe, one from the Americas, one from China and the other from Japan.
The rest were community transmissions, one in Gyeonggi-do Province and three in the city of Daegu.
Two of the new cases were among medical staff from Yeungnam University Medical Center located in Daegu,... where confirmed COVID-19 patients were being treated.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters,... there were no confirmed cases among those who voted in this year's General Election.
Given that 14 days is believed to be the longest incubation period for coronaviruses,... if no new cases are reported by the end of Wednesday two weeks on from the General Election, South Korea will have zero confirmed cases related to the election.
A little less than 30-million citizens voted in this year's general election according to the National Election Commission the highest voter turnout rate since 1992 with 66-point-2 percent.
Meanwhile,... for some, a 6-day vacation starts on Thursday... beginning with Buddha's Birthday. South Korean health authorities are asking those who are planning on traveling or conducting any outdoor activities to take all necessary precautions.
"If anyone has a fever or any respiratory symptoms they should not travel. They should use their own car and avoid chaotic vacation spots. Please wash your hands during vacation, wear masks, and cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve when coughing."
Jung also advised for people to maintain at least a two-meter distance from one another and to get tested should any symptoms surface after returning from vacation.
