Proposed To A Man - But Marrying A Woman | LOVE DON'T JUDGE

  • last year
ALEXIS, 29, and Liam, 35, from Doncaster, UK first met on Hinge in 2020. Hitting it off, the pair soon fell in love. At the time, they both identified as gay men but a year into their relationship Alexis came out as a transgender woman. Alexis told Truly: "At 15, that's when I knew who I was and what I wanted. But we lived in a very different world back then. So I thought I'd rather be living as a gay man and find love and happiness that way." However, aged 27, she knew that she finally had to tell her truth: "It just got to a point where I felt like I had no choice on the inside anymore." Just before meeting Alexis Liam had come to the conclusion that he identified as a fully gay man, having struggled with his sexuality in the past. He explained: "I came out to my mum when I was 15. She was super supportive and just accepted it straight away (she told me she already knew and was just waiting for the day I would tell her). But as I got older, I was constantly battling with my sexuality. Am I bisexual? Maybe I'm pansexual?" So when his partner transitioned Liam began questioning everything again: "That just kind of threw that all up in the mix. I still kind of identify as a gay man, but clearly from the outside looking in, I'm with a woman now, so how does that work? If I'm honest, I don't really know. But what I do know is I love Alexis, I'm attracted to her and who she is." While Alexis was transitioning she spent a year and a half offline, to go through the process privately with her loved ones. However, once she did start sharing her story again on social media the couple faced criticism. "We often get trolled because of our relationship," Liam said. Commenters called Alexis "a man in a dress", and said they were "weirdos" and "yet another freak show". But they tried to ignore the trolls: "I don't personally understand why our relationship would affect other people, it's not their life," Alexis said. "99.9% of the comments you do get are amazing. We've just got to remember to stick to the good stuff, not focus on the bad," Liam agreed.
