The U.S. Forces Korea has started administering COVID-19 vaccines to frontline healthcare workers.
The USFK official said on Monday that the Moderna inoculations would start Tuesday at U.S. bases in Osan, Gunsan and Pyeongtaek.
The vaccination is voluntary.
South Korean service members who work with the USFK will likely be allowed to take the shot if they request it.
Seoul's defense ministry said on Monday the USFK made an official request for formal consultations on whether the South Koreans can take the vaccine.
