China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi is in Seoul this morning for a meeting in the coming hours with President Moon Jae-in as well as his South Korean counterpart, Kang Kyung-wha.
They're expected to discuss various issues including North Korea, and the incoming U.S. administration.
Hong Yoo reports.
President Moon Jae-in will meet with China's top diplomat Wang Yi at the Blue House on Thursday afternoon.
Likely to be on the agenda,... is a possible visit to South Korea by Chinese President Xi Jinping and a potential trilateral summit between Korea, China, and Japan.
Wang Yi could also bring up the recent tensions between Beijing and Washington as his visit comes just before the U.S. fully transitions into a Biden administration in January.
Beijing has been emphasizing the need for cooperation in COVID-19 quarantine measures and the economy.
Biden, meanwhile, has promised to re-engage with U.S. allies.
Other issues likely to be discussed are denuclearization, peace on the Korean Peninsula and China-Japan relations.
Before his meeting with President Moon, Wang is also scheduled to meet with Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha on Thursday.
The two will exchange views on bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues... including cooperation in combatting the pandemic.
Wang Yi's visit comes on the heels of his Tokyo visit on Tuesday.
