세계 코로나19 누적 확진자 6천만명 돌파…美 추수감사절 연휴 '비상'

Global COVID-19 cases surpassed 60 million and the virus has caused the deaths of over one-point-four million people. And, for anyone tracking the daily number of deaths from Covid in the U.S. as a metric of the pandemic’s devastation, Tuesday was a particularly bad day. Health experts there warn Thanksiving could lead to further spread of the virus. Here's Jang Tae-hyun.
Following the initial coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan, China last December,... over 60 million people globally have tested positive for COVID-19.
And it took less than three weeks to go from 50 million cases to 60 million.
Johns Hopkins University reported that, as of Wednesday local time, more than one-point-four million people globally have died from COVID-19.
In Europe, one million new cases were reported in just a five-day period.
This has prompted countries such as Italy, Germany and Spain to announce restrictions for the Christmas holiday season.
The Latin American region has the highest number of deaths reported worldwide, representing over 31 percent of the global death tally.
Brazil has more than 170-thousand fatalities and has the world's second-highest death toll, after that of the U.S.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., with Thanksgiving approaching, President-elect Joe Biden has called on Americans to stay safe during that period.
"I know how hard it is to forgo family traditions, but it's so very important. We're now averaging 160-thousand new cases a day. No one will be surprised if we hit 200-thousand cases in a single day."
Since Thanksgiving Day might lead to another surge,... health experts are advising people to wear protective masks and maintain social distancing.
