"코로나19 대유행 시작…내주 전세계 환자 5천만명 넘을듯"

The U.S. election is taking place as the number of Covid-19 cases soar around the world, yes in the United States, but also across Europe especially in France and Spain,..leaving health authorities on their toes.
South Korean health authorities, meanwhile, have called the situation the start of a full-scale pandemic...saying the world could reach over 50 million infections by next week.
Choi Jeong-yoon reports.
The pandemic has gone from bad to worse...with cases in Europe and North America continuing to spike.
France, in its second lockdown, saw over 52-thousand new cases on Monday...breaking daily records.
Of two million tests being carried out each week, French authorities say one in five test positive.
Spain surpassed 55-thousand daily cases over its three-day vacation...bringing the total to over 1-point-3 million.
The World Health Organization says...a lack of facilities remains a challenge to many countries.
"One of the challenges that we're seeing across North America and across Europe, is that the increases in cases, the increases in hospitalization, the increases in ICU, are happening at the same time."
The United States, in the middle of a presidential election, also set a record for the highest seven-day average of daily cases...with over 80-thousand last week.
As of Monday, the country's total is approaching 9-point-3 million, with a death toll of 231-thousand according to Johns Hopkins University.
South Korea's health authorities predict worldwide total cases could surpass 50-million as soon as next week.
"COVID-19 is soaring not only in Europe and the Americas but also in some parts of the Middle East. I would like to say this is not a second resurgence of COVID-19, but the start of a full-scale pandemic."
The situation in South Korea meanwhile, was thought to be relatively under control, with 75 new cases reported on Tuesday.
However, as cluster infections continue to pop up at nursing homes and long-term care hospitals, the government is on alert and will conduct more pre-emptive tests at such facilities.
In doing so, health authorities have so far been able to detect 22 coronavirus cases...preventing mass infections.
