코로나가 뒤덮은 미 대선, 사흘뒤 결판…경합주 막판까지 접전

The coronavirus pandemic is playing a pivotal role in the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
For starters, early voting turnout has soared to historic levels.
With less than four days to go, nationwide polls show Biden in the lead with a wide margin... but President Trump is narrowing the gap in polls in key swing states.
Kim Ji-yeon reports.
The long race for the White House is set to end in the next several days... and the talk of the town for this election is the coronavirus situation.
U.S. President Donald Trump has been campaigning hard on his "America First" initiative, which focuses on boosting the economy... just as infections are rapidly increasing across the country.
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has been attacking President Trump... holding him responsible for putting the country in danger from the worst contagious disease it's ever seen... and highlighting the strain it's put on the economy.
Real Clear Politics' aggregate of polls conducted nationwide during nine days leading up to Thursday... show Biden in the lead... by around eight-percentage-points.
But polls in six swing states... show Biden in the lead by a mere three-percentage-points.
The coronavirus pandemic has prompted voters to cast their ballots early.
The total early voting turnout surpassed 86-million on Friday.
In the state of Texas, around nine million early votes have been cast, accounting for about 53-percent of registered voters statewide.
That's more than the total number of ballots cast during the entire 2016 election in that state.
At this rate, it's forecast this year's election could mark the highest voter turnout in U.S. history with more than 150-million ballots cast.
But the high early voting turnout has led to concerns it could result in chaos and a series of legal suits... if there is a delay in the opening and counting of ballots cast via mail... since they take longer to process than on-site ballots.
President Trump has criticized mail-in voting, claiming it can lead to voter fraud... and it's widely speculated that he won't yield to defeat if he loses by a slim margin.
