The race for a COVID-19 vaccine continues... with American biotech firm Moderna claiming that it's preparing for the global launch of its potential COVID-19 drug.
Pfizer also says that its own drug could be ready before Christmas.
Kim Dami has the updates on COVID-19 vaccine.
Moderna says its prospective COVID-19 vaccine is ready for a global launch, reportedly already accepting one-point-one billion U.S. dollars in deposits from governments around the world.
In its third quarter earnings report on Thursday, the U.S. biotech firm revealed that it's been engaging in negotiations with the World Health Organization and its vaccine distribution cohort COVAX.
Moderna and the agency are working on a tiered pricing proposal for its drug named mRNA-1273.
It already has supply agreements in North America, the Middle East and Japan.
The drug is in late-stage human trials and will not apply for emergency use authorization until late November at the earliest.
In the meantime, a German COVID-19 vaccine could be ready before Christmas.
According to the Times on Thursday, Pfizer chief executive said the vaccine was in the "last mile," with results expected within a matter of weeks.
While the last stages of clinical trials are almost complete, the UK government has already brought up forty million doses of the drug.
After filing applications to the WHO for an emergency use listing and prequalification of its very own COVID-19 vaccine Sputnik-V earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday his country may start mass vaccination by year's end.
Russia was the first country to grant regulatory approval for a coronavirus vaccine before completing large-scale trials.
