The U.S. FDA has approved Gilead Sciences' antiviral drug Remdesivir as a treatment against COVID-19.
The approval, granted Thursday,... makes Remdesivir the first and only officially approved drug to treat the novel coronavirus in the U.S.
Earlier in May, the FDA granted the drug an emergency use authorization,... following research that the drug can shorten recovery time among COVID-19 patients.
In August, the scope of the emergency use was expanded to not only include patients with severe symptoms but also other inpatients as well.
