Our Life With Culture section is back today, with Kim Bo-kyung joining me in the studio to let us know what's on this weekend.
Bo-kyoung, what's new?
Hi, Conn-young, according to recent research,... one out of every four households in South Korea has a pet these days, and 80 percent of those households have dogs.
But unfortunately,.... a lot of public places are off limits to pets meaning there aren't many activities for owners to enjoy with their dogs.
That was until the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art created a special exhibition just for dogs.
Let's take a peek.
Dogs have long been considered part of the family... but they often can't enter public places.
To give dog owners somewhere to take their pets, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art is holding "A Museum for All, A Museum for Dogs".
The tables here are designed for dogs. They're lower than normal so dogs can climb on them, and most are colored blue and yellow the colors that dogs can most easily recognize.
"We don't know much about dogs' characteristics so we have cooperated with vets,... and as dogs mainly use senses other than sight, we asked architects and landscape architects to work with us."
Due to COVID-19, people need to book in advance to enjoy the museum ,... and a maximum of two people can come for each dog.
"I was looking on the Internet for activities my pet and I could do together and I found out there was an exhibition. I am happy to know there is one more activity we can do together."
“The outer part of the art museum has been turned into a place where dogs can freely wander around. But owners shouldn’t forget to scoop up their dogs’ poop ”
There are objects that are used in dog agility contests,... giving the owners a chance to cooperate with their dogs.
"Usually there are limited places in the city that we can enjoy with our dogs. I believe such a museum where we can both play with our pets and feel the city is a great experience."
The curator says the straw maze is the best spot for dogs that visit the museum,... where they can follow their nose and mark their territory if they want.
The exhibition runs until October 25th.
That surely is exciting news for dog owners. Now, are there any other exhibitions or shows we can enjoy?
Sure, around 150 innovative works by “genius artist" Jean-Michel Basquiat, who made a huge impact on the New York art scene in the early 1980s, are on display in an exhibition at the LOTTE Museum of Art.
At Kwanglim Arts Center at Gangnam-gu District, is the musical 'Werther'. The noble love story based on Goethe's 'The Sorrows of Young Werther' is given a Korean twist.
