President Moon Jae-in says the government's fourth extra budget will be used to provide tailored financial support to the people hit hardest by the pandemic.
Speaking in a meeting with his top aides on Monday,... Moon said that another budget was inevitable... to strengthen the public safety net so that people's lives don't collapse and to support those who are just barely getting by.
We will focus on first helping those who have faced the biggest economic impact from the resurgence of the coronavirus and find themselves at the breaking point, like merchants, the self-employed and others in hard-hit industries and segments of society.
The extra budget is expected to be worth roughly six billion U.S. dollars and will be financed through the issuance of state bonds.
The president asked for understanding that support cannot be extended to all citizens,... given the fiscal burden and that the end of the pandemic is unforeseeable.
Moon asked for parliamentary cooperation once the government submits the bill... so that the extra budget can be implemented before the Chuseok holiday, which starts in late September.
