North Korean leader Kim Jong-un went to Hamgyeongnam-do Province on Saturday to survey the damage caused last week by Typhoon Maysak.
Meeting on site with Worker's Party officials, he dismissed and replaced the Party's provincial chairman apparently for an inadequate response to the storm.
According to state media, Typhoon Maysak destroyed over one thousand homes in the region and flooded a considerable amount of farmland.
Kim also sent an open letter to Party members in Pyeongyang ordering 12-thousand elite members to go to the damaged areas and lead the recovery work.
This is the latest in a series of public appearances by Kim recently in relation to flood damage and the pandemic to cultivate the image of a caring leader.
