S. Korean newlyweds visit Jeju for alternative honeymoon

Traveling outside of Korea has been much more difficult since the COVID-19 outbreak, however, the pandemic hasn't stopped many newlyweds from going on their honeymoon. The chosen destination so far this year has been Jeju Island which has become a hot spot for newly married couples in Korea.

There have been fewer travelers than normal here at Jeju International Airport this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But it has been slowly getting busier of late on account of newlyweds heading to Jeju for their honeymoon.
Many weddings have been delayed, and traveling outside of Korea has become much harder because of the pandemic.
But, many of those who HAVE been able to tie the knot, saw Jeju Island as their honeymoon destination of choice.
"As international travel is restricted, we noticed reservations made by newlyweds increased. We started our honeymoon trip package last April and reservation rates have surged since. We definitely see Jeju as a new honeymoon destination after COVID-19".
It has been seven years since some hotels have released honeymoon packages.
But, the number of honeymoon package bookings jumped five times in June compared to March.
The island has plenty of spots that are perfect for people to enjoy on their honeymoons.
Such as Songaksan Mountain, located in Seogwipo on the south of the island...which has walkable trails for couples to walk along by the shore and enjoy views of the ocean.
And, of course, beaches are always popular.
At Hyeopjae Beach, west of Jeju city, many couples were taking pictures and taking in the sights along the white sand shore.
Some newlyweds, who ended their stay with a sunset yacht tour, said COVID-19 wasn't going to stop them from enjoying their honeymoon.
"Well, we were originally planning to go to the Maldives, but we weren't able to go outside of Korea due to COVID-19. So we decided to go to Jeju island instead to get rid of the stress from all the wedding preparations."
With COVID-19 restricting international travel, newlyweds are expected to continue to honeymoon on Jeju island for a little while longer. Choi Won-jong, Arirang News. Jeju.
