Hantangang River receives UNESCO Global Geopark certification

Korea's Hantangang River and the surrounding area has received UNESCO Global Geopark certification... given to sites and landscapes of international geological significance.
The Gyeonggi-do provincial government said the UNESCO Executive Board,... which held a meeting in Paris late last month... gave final approval.
The river, which is situated in the DMZ and is famous for its scenic view, originates in North Korea... and passes through South Korea's border regions of Cheorwon, Pocheon and Yeoncheon.
The certification covers the river's South Korean region,... its basin of more than one-thousand-165 square kilometers.
