South Korean director Bong Joon ho received an eight minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night for his latest film "Parasite."
I don't like to follow the convention or codes for genre films, I try to convey messages about society through these broken codes."
The audience at the 23 hundred seat Grand Theatre Lumiere burst into applause after the 2 hour long film.
"Parasite" portrays a poor family getting involved with a wealthy family residing in a gaudy mansion.
This is Bong's fifth time at Cannes and his second attempt to win the Palme d'Or in the main competition section, following "Okja" in 2017.
