Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, museums and theaters are putting on special events, from exhibitions to film and music, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War.
Kim Sung-min reports. Korea's precious cultural assets could have so easily been lost or destroyed during the Korean War.
This masterpiece forged during the early period of the Shilla Dynasty could have been lost forever if it hadn't been whisked away to Busan during the Korean War.
Marking the 70th anniversary of the Korean War, the National Museum of Korea is holding an exhibition on the museum's role in preserving many of Korea's historical properties during the war.
Here, visitors can enjoy the exhibits that the museum kept out of harm's way.
"It is surprising how there were people who were trying to protect cultural assets even when their own lives were at risk during the war. Not many people know these things so commemorating the 70th anniversary, we wanted to show what role the National Museum played."
Right now, the museum is closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, so the exhibition is available on its Youtube channel, starting June 25th.
Movie lovers can commemorate the country's special anniversary through old films that depict the war.
The Korean Film Archive is releasing five films on its Youtube channel on June 25th, under the title 'Wind upon the Border.'
Seven more films will be up on the KMDb channel from June 30th for two weeks.
Of those, 'A Bouquet of Thirty Thousand People', filmed in 1951, is the oldest movie available about the Korean War.
It tells the story of a man who loses his sight during the war.
Music could also become a great way of remembering the war.
The National Theater of Korea is putting on a special concert, under the theme, "War and Peace."
The coronavirus has put the concert on hold, but it will still be held online on the National Theater of Korea's Naver TV channel from 1:30 PM on June 25th.
