President Moon Jae-in has called on North Korea to remain open to dialogue,... and for the two Koreas to overcome any obstacles together.
In a video message to mark the 20th anniversary of the June 15 Declaration signed during the first-ever inter-Korean summit on Monday,...
Moon expressed regret over the current tensions on the Korean Peninsula, noting North's recent threats and the severing of communication channels.
In a symbolic move, Moon wore the same blue tie that South Korea's late president Kim Dae-jung wore when the declaration was signed with then-North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
We must solve the difficult problems facing us through communication and cooperation. We cannot let animosity and misunderstandings get in the way of our efforts toward peace and co-existence.

Moon said he was well aware of Kim Jong-un's efforts to turn things around on the peninsula,... and that he has regrets that there hasn't been as much progress as hoped.
Recalling the promise of peace that was made with Chairman Kim,... Moon said that the two Koreas cannot go back on their summit deals...vowing continued efforts to implement the agreement signed in 2018.
Moon highlighted the need for the two Koreas to build trust based on the spirit of the June 15 Declaration,... while pushing ahead with their own initiatives.

We need to gain support from the international community, even if it takes time. But there's also projects that the two Koreas can pursue independently. The most important thing is trust. We must develop trust between the two sides through constant dialogue.

Separately, in a meeting with his aides earlier in the day, Moon stressed that inter-Korean relations cannot be put on hold and that the two Koreas need to find a breakthrough together.
He said that we can no longer wait for conditions to get better, saying the fate of the Korean Peninsula should be determined by the two Koreas.
